Loathing is a story-driven top-down RPG inspired by classic titles such as Phantasy Star and Dragon Quest.

Rendered in a nostalgic pixel art style, the game focuses on atmosphere, introspection, and quiet storytelling rather than large-scale spectacle.

Every location, encounter, and conversation is designed to subtly reflect inner conflict. Beneath the simplicity of the world lies a melancholic journey centered on emotion, isolation, and self-confrontation.

Loathing was heavily inspired by the structure and visual language of classic RPGs from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras.

Rather than recreating those games directly, the project uses their familiar format to tell a quieter and more emotionally reflective experience.

The world was designed to feel deceptively simple at first glance. Beneath its nostalgic presentation, each encounter carries symbolic weight tied to personal struggle and emotional tension.

The experience was built around restraint and atmosphere.

Dialogue, environments, and pacing were intentionally kept understated in order to create a constant feeling of unease and reflection without relying on excessive exposition.

The goal was to create an RPG where the emotional interpretation of the journey becomes just as important as the events themselves.
